Marketing for Automotive Businesses
Get found when something goes wrong with someone’s car, earn the trust that wins the booking and be the workshop locals think of first.

Why marketing is tough for automotive businesses
Being great on the tools isn’t enough if people don’t think of you when their car needs work.
Great on the tools, no time for marketing
Most workshop owners are brilliant at what they do, and that’s the work that pays the bills. Marketing gets pushed to the bottom of the list, and the business slowly falls behind competitors who are showing up online.
Still running on pen and paper
Plenty of workshops still run on paper job cards and word of mouth. That works until regulars move on, and there’s no website, reviews or online presence to bring in the next lot of customers.
When a car breaks down, people Google it
When the warning light comes on, people search for a mechanic nearby and pick from the top few results. If your website, Google Business Profile and reviews haven’t been looked after, you get pushed down below the workshops that have.
Trust decides who gets the job
People worry about being overcharged, so they read reviews, look at photos and check how a workshop responds before they call. A thin or outdated online presence makes that trust harder to earn.
Fewer WoFs bringing customers back
From 1 November 2026, many cars move from yearly to two-yearly WoFs. That means fewer built-in reasons for customers to come back, so staying front of mind between visits matters more than ever.
No one thinks of you until they need you
Nobody thinks about their mechanic until something goes wrong. If they haven’t heard of you by then, they’ll go with a name they have heard of, or whoever shows up first on Google.
Marketing services built for automotive businesses
Each channel is set up around one goal: more calls, more bookings and more cars through the workshop.
Local SEO and Google Business Profile: show up when cars break down
We keep your Google Business Profile up to date with your services, hours, photos and reviews, and list you on the directories that matter, so you show up in the map results when locals search for a mechanic, WoF or tyres nearby. A simple review system we set up for Mag & Turbo gave local search visibility a big lift across its stores.
Local SEO services →Google Ads: be there the moment someone needs a mechanic
Google Ads put you at the top of the page when people search for things like “mechanic near me”, “brake repair” or “WoF Christchurch”. We focus your budget on the jobs you want more of and track every call and booking back to the ad. Rebuilt Google Ads and SEO helped several Mag & Turbo stores hit record months.
Google Ads services →Website SEO and AI visibility: be the answer on Google and ChatGPT
A fast, clear website that lists every service you offer, where you are and how to book, written so it ranks on Google and gets picked up by AI tools like ChatGPT and Google’s AI Overviews. NOVUS Glass saw a 101% boost in organic website traffic after its Chip in with NOVUS campaign.
Talk to us about your website →Facebook and Instagram ads: be the name they already know
Nobody thinks about their mechanic until something goes wrong, and then they go with a name they’ve heard of. Meta ads keep your workshop in front of locals all year, with video of your team and your work, so you’re who they think of first. Our video content for NOVUS Glass reached 434.7K views.

Automotive marketing from people who know the industry
We’ve worked with workshops, tyre shops, glass specialists and national franchises, so we understand how people choose who to trust with their car.
Independent workshops
We help local mechanics get found on Google, build up their reviews and become the name people think of when something goes wrong, without the owner having to learn marketing.
Specialist services
Tyres, glass, panel and paint: we help specialists own the searches for the work they do best, so they’re not just competing on price.
Franchise groups
We build marketing systems that work across multiple locations, like Mag & Turbo’s nationwide review program, with every store getting its own local visibility.

Automotive marketing FAQs
How do I get more customers for my mechanic workshop?
Make sure you show up when people search for a mechanic nearby, and give them a reason to trust you when they do. That means an up-to-date Google Business Profile with plenty of recent reviews, a website that clearly lists your services and a phone number that’s one tap away.
From there, Google Ads put you at the top of the page for searches like “brake repair near me”, and Meta ads keep your name in front of locals so you’re who they think of next time something goes wrong.
How long does SEO take for a workshop?
Most workshops see early movement in local search within a few months, with stronger results building over six to twelve months.
Timing depends on your starting point, how competitive your area is and how many reviews you collect. Google Ads can bring in calls while SEO builds.
Is Google Ads worth it for mechanics?
Usually, yes. People searching for a mechanic, WoF or brake repair generally need the work done soon, so they’re ready to book.
We focus your budget on the jobs you want more of, run ads when you can take the work and track calls and bookings back to the ads, so you know what each job costs to win.
Are Facebook ads worth it for an automotive business?
Yes, but for a different reason than Google Ads. Most people don’t need a mechanic today, so Facebook and Instagram ads are about building familiarity. When something does go wrong, you’re the name they already know.
Short videos of your team, your workshop and the work you do build trust before anyone picks up the phone.
How do I get more Google reviews for my workshop?
Ask every happy customer, and make it easy. A review link in your invoice or follow-up text, a QR code at the counter and a team who mention it at pick-up all help.
Mag & Turbo ran a simple incentive system across its stores, with a shared dashboard and a monthly morning tea for the winners, and it gave local search visibility a big lift.
How should I respond to a bad review?
Reply quickly, calmly and without arguing. Thank them, acknowledge the issue and offer to sort it out offline.
Future customers read your replies as closely as the reviews. A fair, professional response often builds more trust than another five-star review.
Should I put my prices on my website?
Where you can, yes. Clear starting prices for common jobs like servicing, WoFs and tyres help people choose you without having to ring around.
For jobs that depend on the car, explain what affects the price and how you quote. Being upfront builds trust and brings in customers who are ready to book.
I’m not good with technology. Do I need to be?
No. You’re good at fixing cars, and that’s where your time should go. We handle the online side, including your Google Business Profile, website, ads and content.
We keep you in the loop with a weekly update and plain-English reporting, and only need you for the things only you can do, like approving content or getting on camera when you’re comfortable.
How will the WoF changes affect my workshop?
From 1 November 2026, many cars move from yearly to two-yearly WoFs, so customers will have fewer automatic reasons to come in.
That makes it more important to stay in touch between visits, with service reminders, helpful content and ads that keep your name front of mind, and to show up on Google when something does go wrong.
Should I compete on price?
Usually not. Most people would rather pay a fair price to someone they trust than gamble on the cheapest quote.
Reviews, real photos of your workshop and videos of your team explaining the work help people trust you before they call, so you win jobs on more than price.
Do I need a website if I already have a Facebook page?
Yes. Facebook is great for staying in touch with locals, but you don’t own it, it won’t rank well on Google, and it makes it harder for people to see your services, hours and how to book.
A website gives people everything they need in one place and helps you show up in Google and AI search tools like ChatGPT.
How do I know which marketing is bringing in work?
Set up tracking before you spend more on ads. We track calls, bookings and enquiries back to the channel they came from wherever we can, so you can see what’s actually working.
You’ll get a weekly update, monthly reporting and a quarterly business review, so you always know where your budget should go.
Will ChatGPT or Google’s AI recommend my workshop?
No one can guarantee it, but you can make your business easier for AI tools to find, check and trust.
A clear website that lists your services and the areas you cover, a strong review profile, consistent business details across the web and mentions on local directories all help.
To see where you stand, take our free DIVE Scorecard. It comes with a complimentary 15-minute chat with Scott to talk through your results. If you want to go one step further, book a Deep Dive, where we go through your results in detail and give you a clear game plan.
What should my workshop website include?
Every service you offer, with its own page for the big ones like servicing, WoFs, brakes and tyres, plus where you are, your hours, the makes you specialise in and an easy way to call or book.
Make calling or booking one tap on mobile, since that’s where most people are searching. We’ll tell you in the audit whether your current site can be improved or is holding you back.
Do you work with businesses outside Canterbury?
Yes, we work with businesses all across New Zealand.
Our team is based in Christchurch, and we work with automotive businesses all over New Zealand, from single workshops to national franchises. Strategy calls and reporting can happen over video, and we can travel for on-site photo and video shoots.
